Walmart Community Grant to fight pet hunger

(EUGENE, OR) — A Walmart Community Grant has been awarded to A New Leash on Life Pet Rescue and Transport, a nonprofit organization dedicated to saving at-risk dogs through their rescue transports, pet food bank, and animal welfare support efforts.  The Walmart Foundation made a generous $500 gift to help fight pet hunger and abandonment through our Pet Food Bank Program.

“Thanks to Walmart, our food bank can feed more pets, while strengthening animal health and wellbeing in our community.  This grant will enable us to extend our reach and help alleviate the financial stresses of caring for a beloved companion animal,” said Jane Gilbert, Vice President of A New Leash on Life.

We launched our pet food bank with the goal of keeping animals healthier and out of shelters. By providing quality food to charities, churches, veterans, elderly, homeless, low-income pet owners, and animal welfare groups, we help reduce pet abandonment.  We have built relationships with a diverse network of organizations that help us distribute the food throughout the community.  To date, we have donated over 775,000 pounds of food to those who need it the most.

At the heart of our mission is our life-saving transports.  We are committed to rescuing abused, abandoned, and surrendered dogs from overpopulated high-kill shelters and carrying them to safety.  We give them a chance for a new “leash” on life. Since our founding, we have rescued over 8100 dogs from euthanasia.  To learn more about us, visit
